STOP AI PROJECT
STOP AI is a global initiative funded by USAID and implemented in over 45 countries. The project builds countries’ capacities to prevent, detect, respond to, and stop HPAI and other zoonotic disease outbreaks, and minimize economic and nutritional losses that result. Focus is on animal health threats and responses. For Vietnam, the STOP AI project is very innovative and aims at reducing the occurrence of HPAI through the sustainable strengthening of supply chains that can produce, slaughter and commercialize some chicken products that are tasty, safe and consumer-preferred. To achieve this: STOP AI is one of the only initiatives in Vietnam that addresses the HPAI problem from a critical economic perspective - chicken farmer production practices guided by consumer preferences. It enables chicken farmers to make a sustained and sufficient profit to be able to implement good practices for the production and slaughtering of chickens. The STOP AI project provides expertise to the supply chains to design and implement standards at all steps of the food supply chain and to help them better commercialize their chicken products. The STOP AI project will continue through February 2010 but there is no doubt that things will be in place to ensure that the supply chains continue applying the methods developed and further improve them.
